  • -=(*) Experienced Players! What's your best advice for new members? (*)=-

I thought this would be a nice thing to do for new players. I know I wish I had read a thread full of new player advice. Ready ... set... .go.

    1) Read the Dominations Forums! (of course...)
    2) Do not spend crowns. Yet. Begin saving them.
    3) Buy the starter pack for 9.99. This investment in an extra house helps you the earlier you buy it. Statistically, it gives you an advantage and you'll move up faster.
    4) Patience.
    5) Don't cheat. It's not worth it.
    6) Join an alliance and participate in World War early. You only need 1 star to earn loot and loot will help accelerate your growth.

    Additional Excellent Advice Added

    7) Don't be afraid to leave an inactive alliance to go search a better one, and at least spend a couple of minutes looking through the alliance member list. No shows for days and weeks means inactivity. Inactivity kills alliances and kills your own growth. nikki bella
    8) Enjoy the age you're in! Christopher-Outlaws!! (i.e. Don't rush through your age)

And don't be afraid to ask for help or to donate. I think that sometimes new players don't want to donate because they know their troops aren't too advanced yet. With a few exceptions, I think that most people are fine with receiving any troops unless it's during war.

      My Advice:

      1. Enjoy the age you're in! - focus on utilizing the troops you have, use them well, and understand you will never be X age again, so take your time and enjoy it!
      2. Engage the community, everyone I've met thus far is awesome!! - reddit, forums, youtube gaming, kamcord, facebook, everywhere I look!
      3. Don't be afraid to ask for help / advice! - Decisions like wonders, troop configs, order of upgrades, all change your gameplay! don't hesitate to put it out there before making these decisions!
      4. Have fun!! - it is a game after all! don't forget that, do silly stuff like an all wall breaker attack,

Keep your sticks on the ice and have a good time!!

I agree players should fully utilize the age they're in, instead of rushing to the next age. Upgrade your offense then move up (upgrade your defenses at your discretion/leisure) - and expect to get steamrolled no matter what age you're in especially after you've just moved up! People who complain about higher ages beating up the little guy just dont get it. Its a LONG TERM game to be enjoyed, savoured - not rushed.

I've never been into alliances but with the little experience I've had l can definitely recommend it for new players. If l had joined an alliance when l first started (instead of 11 months later!!) I've no doubt l would've been further ahead by now. Shoot, l might even be in the Space Age by now!!
In fact, and l can't believe I'm saying this, l think being in a good alliance is probably the best thing for a newbie!

One final thing: enjoy the journey - dont get caught up on the destination.

This is INCREDIBLY good advice. I didn't understand this until I hit gunpowder and moved to Enlightenment. I've stayed in Enlightenment for almost the same length of time as all the others combined. I'm maxing out before I hit Industrial and it's worth it. This is solid advice. DO NOT jump ages fast, you'll regret it.

Most new players, once they repair the alliance gate, use the in game search feature to find an alliance. I am guessing that 90% of alliances are semi or fully inactive. Don't be afraid to leave an inactive alliance to go search a better one, and at least spend a couple of minutes looking through the alliance member list. No shows for days and weeks means inactivity. Inactivity kills alliances and kills your own growth.

                1. Jump ages as fast as you can until GPA. You will get much better loot and not be attacked. This will unlock an additional house which speeds up progress.
                2. Save all your crowns and once you get 1000, get the armory slot. The next 1000 is the library slot.
                3. At this point of the game, do not bother maximising offenses. After you max your offense at each age, barrack troops, (rifles, infantry, siege ranged, coalitions) move to the next age.

One thing I learned changed my game completely.

To build your base quickly you want to focus on resources, not medals. When dropping medals it is important to also gain resources, and food is particularly easy to get. Just look for an abandoned base. You can tell because you can see their traps have been sprung, their mills are empty and there is no garrisoned general. A lot of the time you'll see a base like this where the farms are outside the walls, and the food loot is actually quite high, sometimes up to 300k. You can deploy a few troops near the farms and easily take all that food while also dropping medals. Depending on the exposure of their roads you can often at the same time take a nice chunk of the gold from caravans too, but the main focus is on food raiding.

When I figured this out my whole game changed, I built my base much faster and 5million food upgrades for the castle etc became no problem. Then when you drop your medals all the way down you have very easy bases, the kind you can clear with just foot troops and some supply trucks. Often they have no walls at all and basic defenses. You'll amass diamonds, food, gold and national trade goods easily on the way back up. As soon as you find it hard to 5 star without losing lots of troops, you go back down again, amassing food on the way down.

Before I figured this out I had trouble getting diamonds and attacked relatively infrequently. Now I am always maxed on diamonds and know that in an hour or so I can get enough food for any upgrade. Just loot like crazy on abandoned bases and forget about high medals to advance quickly.

I have to disagree on one major point. Why bother maxing out your defense when you can still get crushed anyway? The game favors attackers. You’re losing valuable time that you could have advanced and have more houses, which means more people building stuff. TIME is the most valuable resource.
                    1. Rush the ages and get your houses ASAP. You may need market upgrades. Upgrading roads nets a lot of Exp.
                    2. Take advantage of weekly discounts. Sometimes you can make an upgrade that normally costs more resource than you can hold
                    3. Medals can make nice dock bonuses, but that is a small percentage from where your resources come. Raid and don’t worry about medals
                    4. Upgrade the museum ASAP. It’s a game changer. Don’t spend your 400 resources unlocking a star on an artifact until you’re ready. Force close the game if the tutorial is making you.
                    5. Join an alliance. They give you great troops. Give back.
                    6. Don’t even think about long forest expansions until you get Moctezuma’s forest expansion time in the university. Again, time. And probably a good idea to max Hiawatha and Mansa Miss before any serious university endeavors. Grab the most useful university upgrades but remember they give 0 Exp.
                    7. Spend crowns on smart things like extra armory slot, extra library slot, and artifact slots in museums. Almost never spend on resources (raid those) and rarely on speed ups. If you’re gonna speed up, make it a good one, like a town center. It costs the same amount of crowns if it’s a 1-citizen or 10-citizen upgrade; time is the only factor. If you must buy anything, the estate is the best deal in the game. Buying houses is the worst deal in the game; they’re not extra houses you just get them early.
                    8. Make armory, barracks, and troop upgrades a priority. Better troops and more of them mean better raiding. This usually means mill upgrades to hold enough food.

what the op and others said +

                      1. Read chat often
                      2. install line and read it. We use it for WW
                      3. Donate troops
                      4. ask, ask, ask
                      5. watch youtube videos or replays from WW from better players and try to understand why they do the battle that way. Try to understand the tactic usage and the army composition.

Agree on going with the best alliance for you. Be sure you have active, more advanced teammates who will loan you high level troops often and answer any questions. Don't accept an answer of look it up on the forum. Don't stay with inactive alliance.

I agree with most of what has been said, but this would be my advise.

                          1. BUILD YOUR ALLIANCE GATE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND FIND AN ALLIANCE THAT IS ACTIVE AND WANTS TO HELP NEW PLAYERS, NOT ALL DO.
COME VISIT “War Allies”, this is one of the things we do well as an alliance.
                          2. FIND A FUN ALLIANCE THAT ISN’T ALL ABOUT WINNING, BUT HAS A BALANCE OF FUN AND COMPETITION AND WELCOMES NEW WARRIORS.
                          3. DO NOT ADVANCE TO FAST ....FIRST COMPLETE ALL OFFENSE BUILDS THEN DEFENSE....ONLY THEN SHOULD YOU ADVANCE.
                          4. PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS. STRATEGY MATTERS.
                          5. NEVER VISIT ANY ALLIANCE AND ASK FOR TROOPS BEFORE INTRODUCING YOURSELF. YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE KICKED OUT FOR BEING A MOOCH. MOST ALLIANCES WANT TEAM PLAYERS.

Come visit us if this sounds good to you. We welcome visitors and new team mates. Alliance search ... War Allies. All ages welcomed.

dont be afraid to lose on defense.

the worst outcome in defense is when the attacker takes your resources but fails to earn a single star. you lose your stuff but you dont get a peace treaty to protect you from further raids on you. your defensive investments become your own undoing.

the best outcome is when the attacker gets 1 to 3 stars but fails to take your resources. peace treaty gained, no losses suffered.

second best outcome is when the attacker gets 4 or 5 stars and also takes your resources. you get a nice long peace treaty that you can break at the time of your preference, and the amount you lose can be gained back in a single battle.

you dont want a ‘successful’ defense in mp until you are at the endgame.
